According to the seismic map of Turkey, the Mersin region is located in seismic safety zone 4 and is one of the most seismically safe regions in Turkey. The absence of seismic activity is evidenced by the thousands of architectural monuments from the Hittite, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras. Most of these monuments are between 1000 and 2500 years old. The first skyscraper in Turkey, constructed in 1987, with a height of 177 meters and 52 floors, was built in the Mersin region based on seismic safety considerations.
